Rarity of The Month 4: Tilt

I’ve been a bit slack with the old Rarity of the Month thing of late as lots of things have been going on. This latest edition, though, is topical as Mat and I cover this album in the forthcoming episode of our podcast. Also in this coming week it’s about to released on vinyl for the first time.

So as you’ve surmised, It’s Tilt. On vinyl. But hang on, didn’t he just say it’s about to be released on vinyl for the first time this week?

Well, yes I did, and no I haven’t got an advanced copy as I buy my Lightning Seeds stuff! What this is, is a very limited edition promotional pressing. These were limited to a 1000 copies and each one was numbered.

As far as track listings go, it’s exactly the same as the album, which means it has two of the best songs Broudie’s ever written. And some that aren’t.

This promotional version has a much better back sleeve than the regular CD version. Here we see some of the artwork from the CD booklet with the track listing and album credits over the top.

Running Time: 44.03
Release date: 22nd November 1999
Format: Vinyl
Catalogue no. XPR3378

I bought this copy going on for nearly quarter of a century ago. When it arrived I remember being excited as it looked so much nicer than the CD, especially as that had a plain white back insert. The vinyl version also sounded better, this is an album that suits being in vinyl. I can’t wait for the new re-release.

The number of my copy:

I’ve listened to this album quite a lot in recent weeks in preparation for the podcast. Whilst it may not be my favourite Lightning Seeds album, it’s an unfairly overlooked gem and vastly underrated. It’s an essential for any fan and an enjoyable album for new fans to the band. Album opener Life’s Too Short is an absolute banger, and if it were released under the New Order name, it’d easily have been a top ten hit.

Tilt is 25 this year and it deserves a chance to shine. If you’re reading this, do me a favour. Click this link to the official site and pre-order the new version of Tilt. And as you’ll already be there, order the rest of the back catalogue too.
